ARLINGTON, Texas – Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the Virginia Tech baseball team will make its inaugural appearance at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field – home of the Texas Rangers (Major League Baseball) – when the Hokies and five more Power Four programs descend on Arlington, Texas, to compete in one of the sport’s premier non-conference showcases.
Virginia Tech will participate during the tournament’s third weekend from Feb. 27 to March 1, 2026, alongside Arizona State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and UCLA. Matchups and game times will be announced at a later date.
A portion of proceeds from all three weekends of the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series will benefit Shriners Children’s.
“We cannot wait to welcome six more elite programs to Globe Life Field to close out our 2026 college baseball slate as part of the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series,” said Jared Schrom, senior vice president of REV Entertainment. “Next year’s field will be one of the best that we have ever hosted and college baseball fans are in for a treat as the nation’s top programs visit Arlington.”
Among Virginia Tech’s potential showcase opponents reside two of the past four national champions in Mississippi State (2021) and Tennessee (2024). The Hokies hold a 19-game history with the Volunteers, most recently splitting non-consecutive regular season games during the 2013 season, though have yet to face Arizona State, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and UCLA.
“We are really looking forward to playing in the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field,” said Virginia Tech head baseball coach John Szefc. “This will be a great opportunity for our student-athletes and our program to play against some of the better programs in the country in a postseason-style format.
“This will be a great challenge for our guys, getting them out of Blacksburg and getting them in a big-league ballpark. Anytime you can put your team in a big-league ballpark, you 100 percent want to do it, especially when they are going to be playing against the level of teams that we are going to play.”
Virginia Tech will be making its first appearance in an MLB ballpark since April 23, 2022, when the Hokies defeated Boston College, 6-1, at Fenway Park (beloved home of the Boston Red Sox) during the Eagles’ 10th annual ALS Awareness Game. Prior to 2022, Virginia Tech had last competed in an MLB ballpark during the 1998 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship that was held at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (defunct home of the Philadelphia Phillies).
“We try to put together the best schedule we can when it comes to incorporating challenges and this tournament certainly is a great ingredient for that,” said Szefc. “We embrace this challenge. I am very thankful that the tournament organizers included us in this field.”
