Marketing staff honored as NACMA’s 2025 Marketing Team of the Year

Hokies earned several ‘Best Of’ awards at annual conference in Orlando

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Marketing office took home top honors as the NACMA 2025 Marketing Team of the Year presented by Presto Sports at the 2025 NACDA Conference in Orlando on June 9. 

NACMA (National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators) is an organization that provides the tools, training and network for collegiate sports marketers to successfully generate revenue, manage brands, and develop fans. J.C. Whidden, senior associate athletics director, brand advancement and external operations, serves on the board. 

"We are so humbled and honored by this recognition from our industry peers,” Whidden stated. “While given to the Marketing Team, the award is the culmination of all the tremendous work done over the last year by our entire External Operations team. It's truly a team effort and team award." 

The Marketing Team won several ‘Best Of’ awards which are peer-reviewed by other college athletics marketers, with points being totaled counting towards the crowning of the Marketing Team of the Year.

GOLD: Single Game Attendance/Sellout Campaign for Liz Kitley Night 
GOLD: Student Engagement for Student Scan-A-Thon  
GOLD: Ticket Revenue Campaign for Men’s Basketball Death of the Season Ticket  
GOLD: New Revenue Generating Idea for AI Wolfcycle Campaign 
SILVER: Lead Generation Campaign for Metallica Concert Announcement  
SILVER: Fundraising Campaign for Liz Kitley Bobblehead 
SILVER: Game Day Experience for Women’s Basketball Game Day/Liz Kitley Day 
BRONZE: Viral Social Initiative for 2024 Football Uniform Reveal  
BRONZE: Quick Sales Campaign for Thursday Night Football Mini Helmet Micro Campaign 

In addition, Virginia Tech received honorable mention for NACMA’s Unity Award, which recognizes a campaign or initiative which brings the community together.
