Hokie Golf hosts Reunion Weekend at PDRCVT

The Virginia Tech golf team is hosting thefirst-ever Virginia Tech Golf Team Player Reunion Tournament at the Pete DyeRiver Course of Virginia Tech this weekend, November 5-6.  The eventconsists of a 36-hole Two-Man Team event on Saturday and Sunday with a socialand dinner Saturday night.  Tee time is a shotgun start at noon onSaturday, with warm-up at 11 a.m. and tour of VT Golf Complex at 10:30 a.m. Sundayis a 9 a.m. shotgun start.  

 

There are 28 players from nine statesrepresenting seven decades of Virginia Tech golf returning to play in the event.The most senior member of the group will be Dr. Richard Duma, class of 1955. MarshallBailey (’11), the only player who appeared in four NCAA Championships with his Hokie teammates, will also return for the event.

 

Others expected in attendance are NeffMcClary (‘66), a Southern Conference champion, Ryan Stinnett (’04), a BIG EASTConference champion, John Bruce (’76), who won the Virginia State Open fourconsecutive years and current Virginia Tech associate head coach Brian Sharp(’95) a former member of the Nationwide Tour who won four collegiatetournaments, including the Metro Conference championship. Also playing areformer GCAA All-America Scholars Mark Teachey and Jake Allison, John Minor whoreceived an individual bid to the NCAA Championship, Billy King, who playedon the Champions Tour and Nelson Long, Jr. ('73), who won Virginia State Open while in college and was the 2011 recipient of the National PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award.

 

Another competitor at the reunion will beDrew Weaver. The 2009 graduate just completed Stage I of PGA TOUR Q-School.Weaver advanced to the next stage of Q-School with a 17th placefinish at the Magnolia Course at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst.
