Dowd sets another school record on final day of SPIRE Division I Invitational

GENEVA, Ohio – Sophomore Frances Dowd set her second school record of the weekend as the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams competed on the second and final day of the SPIRE Division I Collegiate Invitational at the SPIRE Institute Indoor Track & Field Facility Saturday. Dowd finished fourth in the 800 meters in 2:07.22, bettering Asia Washington's 2008 record of 2:07.88. She set the 600 meter school record yesterday (1:30.99).

"I thought this was a very productive meet for us," said Tech director of track & field and cross country Dave Cianelli. "For us to be able to get away from Rector Field House and travel on the road to a different venue, I thought this was a good dress rehearsal in preparing us for the trip to Boston and the ACC Championship Meet in two weeks."

Freshmen Victoria von Eynatten and Martina Schultze led Tech to a 1-2 finish in the women's pole vault as von Eynatten won her second straight competition and set the facility record, clearing 13 feet, 10 inches (4.22m).
