Tech men's soccer team releases 2012 spring schedule

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will play seven exhibition matches throughout the months of March and April, as head coach Mike Brizendine released the Hokies 2012 spring schedule on Thursday. Tech will play at Thompson Field three times during the spring: April 14 versus American, April 18 versus Liberty and on April 22 for its annual alumni match.

The Hokies open the spring season with two matches on Saturday, March 17 in Harrisonburg, Va., on the campus of James Madison. Tech plays Davis & Elkins at 11:30 a.m. and host, JMU, at 3 p.m.

Tech then travels to Johnson City, Tenn., on March 24 to play East Tennessee State at 6 p.m. The following Saturday, March 31, the Hokies will play in the ACC Cup in Greensboro, N.C. The ACC Cup is an event where several Atlantic Coast Conference teams gather in one location as a showcase for spring exhibition matches. Tech will play Elon in the event at 3 p.m.

The first home match of the spring at Thompson Field will take place on Saturday, April 14, as the Hokies take on American at 1 p.m. Then on Wednesday, April 18, the Hokies host Liberty at 7 p.m. The spring schedule wraps up on Sunday, April 22 as the Hokies play their annual alumni game against former Hokie players. The friendly kicks off at 12 noon at Thompson Field.

Two opponents will be familiar to the Hokies as Tech played at both American and East Tennessee State during the 2011 regular season.
