BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s track & field program and director of track & field and cross country Dave Cianelli announced the signing of Britani Myers to a National Letter of Intent for the 2012-13 academic year on Wednesday.
Myers, who is in her senior season of outdoor track & field at John Handley High School in Winchester, Va., has won the past two VHSL Group AA indoor state titles in the 500 meters, setting the AA state meet record of 1:15.34 in February. Outdoors, she ran on the state record setting and state champion 4x400 meter relay team in 2010 and was state runner-up in the 400 meters last year. Myers currently holds eight school records at Handley H.S.
“We are very excited about the addition of Britani Myers to our team,” said head cross country and distance coach Ben Thomas. “She has untapped potential at the mid-distances and is a great competitor. We feel she can develop into a tremendous 800 to 1500 meter runner and bolster our already strong mid-distance group here at Virginia Tech.”
Myers is the fifth announced signee in the class for Tech’s women’s track & field program. The Hokies previously announced the signing of distance runners Kaila Blackburn and Shannon Morton, sprinter Shaquera Leach and javelin thrower Marija Vucenovic earlier this month.
