Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech pole vaulter Chris Uhle claimed his second-straight pole vault event taking first place to conclude the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Uhle, who won last weekend at the Akron Pole Vault Convention, hit a height of 17’09.00” (5.41m), a new personal best, for the first-place finish. His mark, based on the marks added last weekend, still sits in fifth place nationally. With the PR, Uhle moves into a tie for seventh all time in the VT record book. Jared Allison hit a personal best of 5.31m as well, moving him into 11th place all-time for Virginia Tech, surpassing pole vault coach Bob Phillips on the list.
Third place in the pole vault went to former Hokie great Brian Mondschein who competed unattached. Tech also claimed fourth, fifth and sixth in the event. Brad Johnson (4th, 16’07.25”, 5.06m), James Steck (5th, 16’01.25”, 4.91m) and Jeffrey Linta (6th, 15’07.25, 4.76m) all put in quality performances.
In the men’s 200-meter race, Darius Watkins posted a time of 22.25. That time earned Watkins and 11th-place finish overall.
Competing in the women’s pole vault, Kristen Lee and Emma King finished in third and fourth places, respectively, Lee hit a height of 12’10.75” (3.93m) while King posted a mark of 12’04.75” (3.78m).
In the women’s high jump, Johnna Dominick set a personal record of 5’8” (1.73m). Dominick’s mark earned her a fourth-place finish.
The Hokies will be back in action next weekend when they host the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 23 and 24.
