Men's DMR cruises to first-place finish at UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s distance medley relay team of Neil Gourley, Prince Owusu, Patrick Joseph and Thomas Curtin ran a top-15 time nationally to pace the Hokies at the UCS Invitational.

The group of Gourley, Owusu, Joseph and Curtin ran a time of 9:28.84 (after conersions) good for a first-place finish. That puts the Hokies at No. 5 nationally in the distance medley relay.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Katie Kennedy, Shalonda Mitchell, Shannon Morton and Sarah Rapp posted a third-place finish with a time of 11:35.74.

In the women’s 3000, Abigail Motley finished in third-place overall. Motley crossed the finish line in a time of 9:51.53.

Tech will be back in action next Thursday when Tech welcomes the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2015 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Hokies closed out the Virginia Tech Challenge on a high note as several Tech athletes claimed first-place finishes on the day.

Hanna Green posted her second win of the weekend, this time in the women’s 400-meter race. Green crossed the finish line with a time of 55.57 seconds. Amanda Smith finished in fifth place with a time of 57.79 seconds.

Competing unattached, Andrew Eason won the men’s 5000-meter race with a time of 15:15.55. Daniel Rau finished in third with a time of 15:36.19.

In the men’s 400, Chet Hebden scored a fourth-place finish with a time of 49.50 seconds, while Austin Kolko finished in seventh with a time of 50.26 seconds.

Hebden, Dante Price, Griffin Carmichael and Alexander Merritt posted a time of 3:19.94 in the men’s 4x400-meter relay, good for a first-place finish.

In the men’s pole vault, Chris Uhle finished in second place overall hitting a height of 17’9” (5.41m).

Tech will be back in action next Thursday when Tech welcomes the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2015 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
