Cianelli releases Hokies' 2016 track & field schedule

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Four home indoor meets at Rector Field House highlight the Virginia Tech Track & Field team’s 2016 schedule as announced by head coach Dave Cianelli on Thursday.

"I'm very excited about our 2016 track & field schedule," Cianelli said. "I believe that we have some outstanding meets, including our indoor meets at home. We will have some very high quaility competition coming to Blacksburg and we'll be going to some outstanding meets to look for the best competition for our student athletes. I think this is going to be one of the best years that we've had, both on the men's and women's side."

The reigning ACC Indoor men’s champions and women’s team begin competition on Jan. 15-16 at home, serving as host to the Virginia Tech Invitational. The following week, Rector Field House is home to the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 22-23. Tech begins February at home with the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet on Feb. 5-6. Two weeks later, the Hokies close up their home slate with the Virginia Tech Challenge Feb. 19-20.

In addition to their home events, the Hokies will travel to Wake Forest (Jan. 29-30), Penn State (Jan. 29-30), Samford (Feb. 12-13), and Iowa State (Feb. 12-13) as part of their indoor schedule. The ACC Indoor Championships will be held at Boston College Feb. 25-27 with the indoor season wrapping up at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

The Hokies begin their outdoor competition at Miami, taking part in the Hurricane Invitational (March 18-19). The squad will split to open April as the team will compete at the Florida, Texas, and Colonial Relays on April 1 and 2. Tech continues its outdoor schedule at the Tennessee Relays (April 8-9) and UNC-Charlotte Invitational (April 15-16). The Hokies will conclude April with a split squad, competing at Auburn, Virginia, and Duke on April 22-23, and University of Pennsylvania, Radford, and Stanford on April 29-30. Tech wraps up its outdoor slate at Liberty (May 4) and Roanoke (May 5).

Florida State will serve as host to the 2016 ACC Outdoor Championships May 13-15. The NCAA East Regional will take place May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Florida, followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 8-11.
