H2Okie women split with No. 3 Virginia, Towson

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's swimming and diving team split with No. 3 Virginia and Towson as the dual meet concluded on Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

Tech knocked off the Towson Tigers 282-69 and fell to the No. 3 Cavaliers 258-95. In dual meets, the Hokies are now 9-3 on the season.

“We ran into a very strong Virginia women’s team. I feel like we performed well and raced hard knowing we were up against one of the country’s best teams. Ashlynn Peters, Klaudia Nazieblo and all had rock solid weekends for us. Maggie Gruber and Jessica Hespeler continue to emerge not only at the conference level, but heading into the NCAA level. I have tremendous faith in what our women can do in the championship segment.” head coach Ned Skinner said.

Weronika Paluszek picked up a victory on senior day with a win in the 200 breaststroke and an NCAA B cut time of 2:13.31.

Fiona Donnelly finished second in the 400 IM as she swam a 4:25.94. Hespeler also took second place in the 200 free as she finished with a time of 1:49.41. Nazieblo and Gruber finished second and third in the 100 fly with times of 54.97 and 55.57, respectively.

Ashlynn Peters followed up her win in the 1-meter event last night with a second place finish in the 3-meter. She scored a 293.4. Leah Piemonte finished fifth with a score of 254.75.

The women and men will both be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats with Wright State.
