Hokie ClubSTATE COLLEGE, Pa. - After recording two new personal bests, pole vautler Torben Laidig reset the Virginia Tech track & field program record on Friday night at the Penn State National Invitational.
The sophomore shattered his previous mark, reaching a new height of 5.56 meters (18-3) to improve his best and set a new program record.
“He [Torbin Laidig] was very steady tonight, jumping two personal bests: 5.51 meters (18-1) and 5.56 meters (18-3),” pole vault coach Bob Phillips said. “He was a little tired at the end but it looked like he had something left in the tank, which is good for future meets. I’m really happy about his performance.”
Deakin Volz and Brad Johnson placed seventh in the pole vault while Jared Allison finished 10th.
The women’s team concludes competition for the Hokies tomorrow at the Penn State National Invitational.
CLEMSON, S.C. - The Tech sprinters continued the Hokies’ momentum at the Bob Pollock Invitational with six top-10 finishes on the women’s team.
Nora McKiver continued her season with another strong performance in the 60-meter hurdles to advance to finals, finishing second in 8.45. Shanel Burr and Jada Gundran followed suit with fourth and sixth place results in 8.60 and 8.82, respectively.
In the 400-meter dash, Courtney Blanden and Kacia Vines finished 1-2 in section one to place a respective fourth and fifth overall. Blanden clocked in at 58.71 with Vines at 58.72.
Ama-Selina Tchume competed in the 60-meter dash, placing seventh in the finals in 7.89.
On the men’s side, Darius Watkins and Dante Price narrowly missed the finals qualifying time, finishing in 6.90 and 6.94, respectively.
The Hokies wrap up competition tomorrow with the 200-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relays.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Hokies wrapped up day one competition with the 3,000-meter run with five top-five finishes at the JDL Camel City Invitational.
On the women’s side, freshman Lauren Berman took the 3,000-meter crown in 9:46.75. Junior Abilgail Motley placed third in 9:50.74.
Daniel Jaskowak won the 3,000-meter event in 8:11.43 for the men’s team. Andrew Gaiser and Andrew Goldman came in second and fourth with times of 8:13.54 and 8:25.04, respectively.
Tech’s distance runners finish the JDL Camel City Invite with the distance medley relay, and elite 800-meter and 3,000-meter runs.
