Tech finishes day three at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Virginia Tech women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up day three at the 2016 NCAA Championships on Friday.

The Hokies had four top 25 finishes on the day with three coming in swimming and one in diving. Weronika Paluszek finished 17th and narrowly missed Honorable Mention All-American honors as she swam a 1:00.23 in the 100 breast.

Freshman diver Ashlynn Peters scored a 305.85 in the 3-meter event as she finished in 18th place. Maggie Gruber finished 22nd after swimming a 52.51 in the prelims of the 100 fly. Jessica Hespeler swam a 1:45.77 in the 200 free to finish 23rd overall. In the 400 IM, Klaudia Nazieblo swam a 4:13.81 and was the 35th fastest in the prelims.

Tech returns to the pool tomorrow withthe prelims. Nazieblo starts things off in the fourth heat of the 200 back and will also be in heat four of the 200 fly. Paluszek will swim in heat six of the 200 breast. Hespeler will swim the 1,650 free in heat four while Peters and Leah Piemonte will both compete in the platform event. Gruber will be in heat one of the 200 fly.

Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. and the order of events will be 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay. At approximately 3:30 p.m. will be the 1,650 free. The finals of those events will begin at 6 p.m. and be televised on ESPN3.
