BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team will tee off its second season of play at the 20th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships on Sept. 12-13, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Golfers will play at the Cherokee Country Club, which measures 5,897-yards as a par-71. The Hokies will send a team of five to the event, including redshirt sophomores Amanda Hollandsworth and Allison Woodward, sophomore Elizabeth Bose and freshmen Kristin Hearp and Jessica Spicer.
The tournament, hosted by Tennessee, will feature 54 holes of play. Round one will begin on Monday, at 8:30 a.m., in a shotgun start. Upon the completion of the first round, play will continue into the second round. The final round of competition will start on Tuesday, at 9 a.m., also in a shotgun start.
In addition to the Hokies and host Volunteers, the field includes 13 competitors, four of which are ranked in Golfweek’s preseason top 30. No. 23 Tennessee will host BYU, Chattanooga, No. 7 Florida, Illinois, Kent State, Maryland, Memphis, MTSU, Ole Miss, No. 28 North Carolina, SMU, Texas San-Antonio and No. 13 Wake Forest.
Five letterwinners are returning to the Hokie squad this season: Bose, Hollandsworth, Woodward, Anne Taylor Hough and Whitney Stevenson. Coach Carol Robertson also has added four highly touted freshmen and one transfer to the veteran group.
