Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced Tuesday that Caitlan Tate (Lilburn, Georgia) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Hokies for the 2017-18 season.
“I believe Caitlan has a huge upside as a sprinter,” said sprints, hurdles and relays coach Tim Vaught. “She’s a hard working athlete with a passion to be great. She’s from a strong athletic family background that’s very supportive. I’m super excited to start working with her.”
A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Tate competes for Brookwood High under coach Kelly Swanson and was named the state runner-up in the 100-meter dash last season. She placed seventh in the 100 meters at the 2016 New Balance Nationals, earning All-America honors. Tate also shows personal bests of 7.62 (60m), 11.70 (100m) and 23.78 (200m) throughout her lifetime and is listed in Brookwood’s all-time record book 29 times.
“I am so excited to sign with Virginia Tech,” Tate said. “I am so blessed. On my official visit, the coaches and the entire team made me feel like family. I was taken away by the beauty of the campus, and I knew this was a place I could grow academically and athletically. I’m looking forward to joining such a well-rounded team and one day leave my mark.”
The Hokies will open their 2017 indoor season at home with the Virginia Tech Invitational from Jan. 13-14, held at the Rector Fieldhouse, in Blacksburg.
