BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced Friday that Ellie Brush (Mason, Ohio) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Hokies for the 2017-18 season.
“Ellie Brush will be a nice addition to our team,” said head cross country and distance coach Ben Thomas. “She has displayed a good mix of strength and speed in high school. She is mentally talented and a very hard worker who has steadily improved. She’ll fit right in with the team-first environment.”
A native of Mason, Ohio, Brush led the Mason High cross country team to a first-place finish at the 2013 Division I State Cross Country Meet, followed by a runner-up finish in 2014. Of note, she shows a personal best 18:08.30 in the 5K event.
Also a three-time state track qualifier, Brush qualified for four events at the 2016 Division I State Track and Field Meet in Columbus, placing third in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:56.87, a personal-best mark. She also owns a personal best 2:14.84 in the 800-meter event.
“I really loved the girls on the team, and I felt at home when I visited,” Brush said. “I also thought I would fit in well with the coaches training plan.”
The Hokies will open their 2017 indoor season at home with the Virginia Tech Invitational from Jan. 13-14, held at the Rector Fieldhouse, in Blacksburg.
