Hokie ClubCampus Insiders has released its 2016 Sophomore All-American Team in college football and Virginia Tech sophomore Tremaine Edmunds has been chosen as a First Team linebacker, while his brother Terrell Edmunds and Adonis Alexander are honorable mentions as defensive backs.
Tremaine Edmunds, out of Danville, Virginia, has enjoyed his first full year as a starting linebacker and etched his name in the Tech record book, registering a tackle-for-loss in 13 straight games, while he is second on the team in TFLs with 17.0, just behind senior Woody Baron (17.5). In fact, Baron and Edmunds have combined for more TFLs in a single season than any other duo since 1998.
Here is what Campus Insiders wrote about Edmunds ... "Physically, the Hokies believe they could have their next Xavier Adibi in Blacksburg. Edmunds took a big step toward fulfilling lofty expectations in 2016. He has the frame of a budding defensive end, 6-foot-5 and 236 pounds, to go along with the range to fly all over the field to make plays. Edmunds is still learning the cerebral side of the game, yet parlayed 99 tackles, 17 stops for loss, 4.5 sacks and nine hurries into Second Team All-ACC honors."
Terrell Edmunds, a redshirt-sophomore from Danville, Virginia. According to STATS, LLC, Edmunds has allowed just one touchdown all season, while notching three interceptions, which is tied for the team-lead, and is currently third among ACC strong safeties in total tackles with 84.
Alexander, Charlotte, North Carolina, has 42 tackles this season and has picked off a pair of passes. He has started the last four games and adds seven pass break-ups to his totals. He's also scored a special teams touchdown, returning a blocked field goal attempt at Duke (11/5) 75 yards in Tech's 24-21 victory.
