Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team will face an improved and challenging schedule as it heads into its third season of competition. The 2017-18 schedule features nine regular season events, plus the ACC Championship.
“This schedule is another great platform for our developing team to make great strides,” head coach Carol Robertson said. “We are entered in some of the top events in the country which only helps prepare us for the ACC and beyond. We will be returning to some venues for the third year, which is a great asset knowing our juniors have played there for two years in a row. We are looking forward to a fantastic year of travel and growth!”
The Hokies, coming off a summer that saw multiple returning players win prestigious individual events, open the season at the Minnesota Invitational. The first of four new tournaments for the Hokies this season will be played at the Preswick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minnesota, hosted by the University of Minnesota Sept. 11-12.
Tech will return to the Furman Lady Paladin on Sept. 22-24, at the Furman University Golf Club. Tech was eighth in last year’s event and Amanda Hollandsworth finished fourth overall. After Furman, the Hokies will compete in the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course on Oct. 13-15.
The fall portion of the schedule will conclude with a return trip to the Louisville Cardinal Cup, to be played at the University of Louisville Golf Club Oct. 21-22. Tech was eighth in last year’s event and Hollandsworth had her second top 10 finish of the fall, tying for 10th place.
The spring schedule begins with another swing through the State of Florida. The trip will begin with a new event for the Hokies, the Moon Golf Invitational, hosted by Louisville at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida on Feb. 18-20. The second leg of the trip will be a return to the Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Club in Coral Gables, Florida March 5-7, hosted by the University of Miami.
Following Spring Break, Tech has a pair of familiar events. Tech returns to the 3M Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Course March 16-18 and the Kennesaw State Invitational at the Pinetree Golf Club March 26-27. Allison Woodward tied for eighth at last year’s Kennesaw event.
The regular season concludes at a new event for the Hokies, as they travel to Macon, Georgia for the Mercer Invitational April 8-10 at the Brickyard Golf Club.
The Hokies will be looking for continued growth at the ACC women’s Golf Championship. This year’s event will once again be played at the prestigious Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, following a one-year stay in South Carolina. Tech finished 12th its first season and improved to 11th place last season.
