BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head wrestling coach Tony Robie announced Tuesday that the Hokies will face Stanford in their season opener at Cassell Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 4. A start time will be decided in the near future.
Stanford joins a home non-conference slate for Tech that features Central Michigan, Missouri, West Virginia and Lehigh. The Hokies will be wrestling Mizzou in the Moss Arts Center
The dual will be the first ever meeting between the Hokies and the Cardinal. Virginia Tech last wrestled a Pac-12 opponent in 2016 when the Hokies defeated Arizona State 28-12 at the Virginia Duals. The Hokies are 7-1 all-time against programs from the Pac-12.
The match with Stanford will replace Tech’s Dec. 9 dual at Rider on the 2017-18 schedule. The Hokies will now only have one match on the weekend they take on Princeton in the Theater at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 10.
The Hokies’ complete 2017-18 schedule can be found on the wrestling schedule page of HokieSports.com.
