BLACKSBURG – Coming into the ACC Indoor Championships with the hopes of defending its title on the men’s side and winning on the women’s side for the first time since 2008, the Virginia Tech track and field teams will make the trek south to Clemson for the three-day meet.
Action begins on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. ET with the heptathlon inside the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex. The Hokies own two facility records at Clemson’s facility, as pole vaulters Lisa Gunnarsson (4.46 meters; 14 feet, 7.5 inches) and Torben Laidig (5.45 meters; 17 ft., 10.5 in.) own the top marks.
All five disciplines will be heading to the Palmetto State, with Vincent Ciattei (mile), Patrick Joseph (800) and Laidig (pole vault) looking to defend their titles, as well as the men’s DMR.
Tech is the lone team in the ACC to have both of its units ranked, as the women are No. 15 and the men are No. 17 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Computer Rankings.
ACC Network Extra will live stream the final two days of action, with former Olympic decathlon gold medalist Dan O’Brien serving as color analyst, reprising the role he first filled at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships. He will be joined by veteran ESPN play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney and sideline reporter Hanna Yates.
Coverage will air from 4:30 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. on Friday and from noon until the meets conclusion on Saturday.

The last time out, 11 individual event titles highlighted Tech’s performance on Feb. 16 at the Roanoke Tune-Up. The DMR groups on both sides took first place, too, as the men, made up of Neil Gourley, Greg Chiles, Joseph and Ciattei, posted a time of 9 minutes, 36.31 seconds, while the women, consisting of Rachel Pocratsky, Arlicia Bush, Laurie Barton and Katie Kennedy, clocked a time of 11:08.48.
Both times rank as some of the nation’s best, and the women’s time was a school record, topping the previous best time of 11:10.84 (J. Fanning, S. Green, A. Washington and T. Fanning) set in 2007.
The men and women own exactly 16 times and marks that rank in the top 50 across the nation. In the ACC, the Hokies own 41 times and marks that sit in the top 10 of the league.
