Hokies heading to Final Four of the WNIT after 74-67 win over Alabama

BLACKSBURG – Behind another balanced scoring attack with four Hokies in double figures, Virginia Tech advanced to the Final Four of the WNIT, defeating Alabama 74-67 Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies will matchup with the winner of the West Virginia and St. John's game on Wednesday, March 28. The time and location are still to be determined.

"I'm very pleased with our effort, very happy for the kids," head coach Kenny Brooks stated. "It was a great win for us and we get to continue on and play. The crowd was tremendous and everything that you want to get out of the WNIT experience, our team is doing so and I'm proud of that. We're winning basketball games, I think we're creating a buzz with our fan base, and probably most important, our kids are getting better."

Taylor Emery knocked down another program record Sunday, this time eclipsing Uju Ugoka's mark of 213 made field goals in a season. Emery scored 19 points on 7 for 12 shooting against the Tide, taking her season tally to 218.

"Rachel's maturation into the point guard position has just been fantastic," Brooks said. "The way that she's grown and the way she's gotten us to do some of the things we've been able to do has been tremendous. That's only going to bode well for her in the future with her ball handling experience."

Camp scored 17 points on the afternoon, doing most of her damage at the free throw line, hitting 13 of 14 attempts. She also grabbed six rebounds.

Regan Magarity continued her fantastic season, tallying her 15th double-double of the campaign with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also protected the rim with three blocks and dished out four assists.

Alabama (20-14) was led in scoring by Jasmine Walker with 16 points, while Ashley Williams recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Next Up: The Hokies will play in the semifinals against West Virginia in Morgantown on Wednesday, March 28.
