The Virginia Tech men's golf has a two round total of 584 and is in ninth place at the Stitch Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon. The three-day event is being played this weekend at the par 72, 7,003-yard MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, North Carolina.
Tech shot a 299 in Friday's first round and improved to a 3-under 285 in Saturday's second round.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies at 5-under 139. He is tied for seventh place and trails leader Amarin (Ray) Kraivixien of Campbell by seven strokes. Lawrence shot a 4-under 68 in Saturday's round.
Joey Jordan, a junior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 34th at 147 and Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, is tied for 46th at 149. Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, is tied for 52nd at 150 and Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, is tied for 57th at 152. Burgess had an eagle 2 on the par 4, 446-yard 18th at MacGregor Downs.
Duke takes over the team lead, with a two round total of 22-under 554, 10 strokes ahead of NC State. East Carolina is third at 565, Wake Forest is fourth at 566 and Campbell is fifth at 569. UAB is sixth at 572, Maryland is seventh at 575 and College of Charleston is eighth at 582, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Appalachian State is 10th at 588, Richmond is 11th at 607 and Ohio is 12th at 608.
