NEW LONDON, N.C. -- The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a three round total of 879 and finished in 12th place at the 2018 ACC Men's Golf Championship on Sunday. The three-day event was played at the par 72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, North Carolina over the weekend.
Tech shot a 295 in Friday's first round and improved to a 5-under 283 on Saturday. Tech finished the tournament with a final round 301.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 24th place at 3-under 213. He finished 13 strokes behind medalist Thomas Walsh of Virginia. Lawrence was under par in two of the three rounds at Old North State Club.
Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, and Joey Jordan, a junior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 52nd at 223. Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 52nd place at 224 and Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, finished in 58th place at 226.
Georgia Tech won the team title at 29-under, 835, two strokes ahead of Clemson and three strokes ahead of Wake Forest. Virginia was fourth at 840, Duke was fifth at 844, North Carolina and Notre Dame tied for sixth at 845 and NC State was eighth at 846. Florida State was ninth at 848, Boston College was 10th at 856, Louisville was 11th at 862 and the Hokies finished 12th at 879.
