DES MOINES, Iowa – Virginia Tech track and field alums Drew Piazza and Hanna Green shined on NBC at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in the 800 meters.

Green of Nike OTCE clocked a time of 59.37 seconds her first 400 meters, then went on to close in 1:00.73 on her way to a personal-best time of 2:00.09 in the finals of the 800-meter run with a seventh-place finish. It marks Green's second straight outing with a PR, as she did so two days ago on Friday in the semifinals.

Piazza led early on in the race in lane one the first 300 meters, then was fourth at the 400 mark (54.73) and finished a little faster in 53.64 to close the race in fifth place in a time of 1:48.36. The Massachusetts native also finished fifth last year at the championships.

Following a three-hour weather delay, Tech alum Thomas Curtin led the first 200 meters and stayed in the top three the first 1,400, but eventually slipped to 14th at the 3,000 mark in and did not finish.

The 2017-18 academic year and the USA championships comes to a close for Tech, wrapping up a very successful year for the Hokies' track and field programs.

The men's distance medley relay team won the national title at the NCAA Indoor Championships, helping the men's program to being named the fifth-best program in the country. The women posted their second-highest finish in school history at an NCAA championship, tallying a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
