Hokies add Antani Ivanov to 2018-19 class

BLACKSBURGSwimming and diving head coach Sergio Lopez Miro announces the commitment of Antani Ivanov to Virginia Tech beginning with the 2018-19 season.

"I am very excited to work with such professionals like Coach Sergio and the rest of the staff," Ivanov said. "I am excited to train with the team and with Hugo Gonzalez [announced previously – link] – we will be great training partners. I am extremely excited to join the Hokie Nation."

Ivanov, who hails from Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, won bronze in the 200 fly at the 2017 FINA Junior World Championship and claimed the silver medal at the 2016 LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Hódmezővásárhely, Hungary.

In addition to the previously mentioned meets, Ivanov has represented Bulgaria on the international stage at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor and the 2017 FINA Junior World Championships in Indianapolis.

"I am very happy that Antani has decided to join the Virginia Tech Swimming and Diving team beginning this fall," Lopez Miro said. "Through the recruiting process, I got to know Antani and his parents very well, and he is one of those swimmers that has the ability to change the direction of a team right away. I inherited a very strong men's team here at Virginia Tech, and the additions in the last few weeks of Antani and Hugo Gonzalez (ESP) will spark the team to move towards the top of the ACC and NCAA rankings."

Before joining the Hokies, Ivanov will be swimming at the 2018 European Swimming Championships that will take place in Glasgow, Scotland in August.
