Virginia Tech head women's golf coach Carol Robertson has been named the Virginia State Coach of the Year, in voting by the Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors. Elizabeth Bose was named first team All-State and Amanda Hollandsworth and Emily Mahar were named to the second team.
Robertson has overseen the development of the Virginia Tech program and led the team to its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance this season, in just its third season of existence. She has also built the program with a strong academic foundation. The Virginia Tech women's golf program received a 2018 Public Recognition Award from the NCAA and the golfers earned a perfect multi-year 1.000 APR, with multiple standouts in the classroom.
Bose, a rising senior from Norfolk, Virginia, led the Hokies in stroke average, at 73.21. She competed in every event for the Hokies this season; with two top five, two additional top 10 and three additional top twenty finishes. Bose became the first player in Virginia Tech women's golf history to win an individual title, when she won medalist honors at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida in March. She was named to the 2018 Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Women's At-Large team.
Hollandsworth, who graduated in May, will return next season for her final year of eligibility. She was second on the team in scoring average (74.21) and final round scoring average (74.82). She had a third place finish at the Augusta 3M Invitational and an eighth place finish at the Moon Golf Invitational, to go along with two additional to 20 individual finishes this season.
Mahar, a rising sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, started every event in her freshman season. She was third on the team in scoring average; at 74.94 and final round scoring average, at 75.09. She finished 14th at Minnesota Invitational in her first collegiate event, where she was par-or-better in all three rounds. Her best finish of the season was fifth at the Moon Golf Invitational and she also finished 13th at the Cardinal Cup.
Anna Redding of Virginia was named the Player of the Year and Beth Lillie of Virginia is the Rookie of the Year. Joining Bose on the first time are Lillie and Redding, along with Laura Gomez-Ruiz of James Madison and Maggie Simmermacher and Katerina Vlasinova of Old Dominion. Sophie DiPetrillo of Richmond, Morgan Gonzales of Virginia and Christina Herbert of Bridgewater join Hollandsworth and Mahar on the second team.
