Hokies add final piece to 2018 recruiting class

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced on Thursday another addition to the Hokies' already impressive 2018 recruiting class.

The Hokies' throws group, under coach Andrew Dubs, added another talented thrower with the addition of Isaiah Rogers.

"We are thrilled to be able to add Isaiah Rogers to our Virginia Tech family and Hokie Nation," Dubs said. "I have known Isaiah and his family for a few years now. He comes from an incredible family, with extremely supportive parents who raised him into an outstanding young man.

"Isaiah will have an immediate impact for us in helping us contend for ACC Championships and beyond. Having Isaiah join our program and become training partners with Tyson Jones will afford them the ability to push each other on a daily basis for years to come. This is a great day for our program and the future of Isaiah. I anxiously await his arrival to Blacksburg so we can get to work."

Rogers joined the Hokies after two years at Texas Christian University, where he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in the shot put twice during his sophomore year and first-team honors twice his freshman year. The Smyrna, Georgia native's top throws are 18.43 meters (60 feet, 5.75 inches) in the shot put, 19.45 meters (63 feet, 9.75 inches) in the weight throw and 57.96 meters (190 feet, 2 inches) in the hammer throw.

"I want to thank Virginia Tech athletics, as well as the track and field staff that helped to make this as smooth as possible." Rogers said. "I decided to continue at Virginia Tech because I fully believe that the tools and the staff at hand would propel me to that next level.

"I'm excited to continue my career at such an amazing place as Virginia Tech. I'm truly excited to have the opportunity again to showcase all of my talents. I expect high intensity, big throws and a ferocious competitive spirit."
