McGlynn named preseason All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following back-to-back quality seasons in goal for the Hokies, Virginia Tech junior Mandy McGlynn has been named to the 2018 Preseason All-ACC Women's Soccer Team, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. McGlynn is one of 11 student-athletes to make the preseason team, which was voted on by the conference's coaches.

Tech's starting goalkeeper the past two years, McGlynn has made 34 career starts, has 18 career wins, already tied for fourth all-time at the school, and 12 career shutouts (third-best). The Jacksonville, Florida, native sports a career .769 save percentage and a 1.10 goals against average, with her 1.03 GAA in 2017 ranking the sixth-best single season mark ever for the Hokies.

McGlynn will miss the first few weeks of Tech's 2018 campaign as she is currently in France with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team who is competing in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. McGlynn has been training with the U-20 program for over a year now and helped the team to a runner-up finish in the 2018 CONCACAF qualifier back in January as she posted a 3-1 record in four starts as the team advanced to the World Cup (view story here).

The Hokies play two scrimmages this week prior to opening up the 2018 season - at home Tuesday night at Thompson Field against George Mason and at Liberty Friday night, with both matches set for a 6 p.m. kickoff. They start their nonconference slate on Friday, August 17 with the Virginia Tech Tournament, hosting San Diego Friday night (7:30 p.m.) and Georgetown, Sunday (1:30 p.m.).
