Hokies third entering final round at Minnesota Invitational

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a two round score of 3-under 573 and is in third place entering the final round of the Minnesota Invitational. The two-day event, hosted by the University of Minnesota, is being played at the 6,479-yard, par 72 Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minnesota.
 
Tech shot a 5-under 283 in the morning round and followed that with a 290 in the afternoon's round. Tech's 283 was tied for the second-best round of the first two rounds.
 
Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia and Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina lead the Hokies at 3-under 141. Each shot a 2-under 70 in the first round and 1-under 71 in the afternoon. The duo trail co-leaders Natasha Andrea Oon of San Jose State and Lauren Cox of North Texas, by four strokes.
 
Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 16th at 145, Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 21st at 146 and Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 45th at 149.
 
San Jose State leads the tournament with a 7-under 569, one stroke ahead of East Carolina and four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State are tied for fourth at 580, Louisville is sixth at 582, Notre Dame is seventh at 587 and Oklahoma is eighth at 588. Missouri and North Texas are tied for ninth at 589, Kansas is 11th at 592, San Francisco is 12th at 593, Rutgers is 13th at 597, South Dakota State is 14th at 598 and host Minnesota is 15th at 602.
 
Six of Tech's 10 individual rounds were par-or-better on Monday. Hollandsworth eagled the 500-yard, par 5 18th to conclude her first round this morning. The Hokies posted 25 birdies and an eagle across Monday's two rounds.
 
The final round will be played Tuesday morning, beginning with a 9:15 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Hokies will once again be grouped with San Jose State and East Carolina. Live scoring will be on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
