Top Notes for the Hokies (link to Game Notes pdf packet)

The Hokies to finish off their nonconference schedule over the next four days

  • Next Friday, Tech will open its ACC slate against in-state rival Virginia, part of a home doubleheader at Thompson Field with the Men's team, who will be facing Wake Forest.
  • Before starting league play, the Hokies will finish their nonconference slate vs. Villanova (Friday) at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania and against ETSU at home on Monday night.
  • Tech will meet the Wildcats for the fifth time and the first since a 4-1 victory in Blacksburg back in 2010.
  • The Hokies and ETSU meet for the fourth time with Tech victorious in the prior three.
  • See more on Tech's history versus these two opponents on page 2 of the game notes.

Hokies reach one milestone this season; approaching two more

  • Tech opened its 26th season of women's soccer with a pair of draws against San Diego (8/17) and then-No. 22 Georgetown (8/19). The Sunday match against the Hoyas was the 500th match in school history. In those first 500 games, Tech held a 247-210-43 overall record.
  • Sitting at 249 victories all-time, it means Tech is just one win shy of 250 in program history.
  • Tech head coach Chugger Adair enters the weekend just three wins shy of 100 in his coaching career, as he currently holds a 97-40-17 all-time mark.

McGlynn notches second clean sheet, continues climb in record book

  • This season, the Hokies' goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn has allowed just four goals through 600 minutes played, notching two wins and two shutouts.
  • Of note on those four goals surrendered, one of them was a penalty kick ( vs. High Point, 8/26) while another was an own goal (at Alabama).
  • With her efforts, McGlynn has been climbing the Tech all-time charts in six different categories, and is currently in the top 5 of all six (see page 5 for current list).

Hokies started 2018 with two draws, add a third last week at Georgia

  • In their prior 25 seasons, the Hokies had never opened a campaign with back-to-back ties.
  • Tech has already played three overtime matches this season after setting a school record with seven overtime games last year, going 1-1-5. The five ties set a single-season school record.
  • The Hokies have already earned a draw in each of their three overtime matches and sit at 0-0-3.
  • In its history, the school record for back-to-back draws is two, now done six times, while Tech has played back-to-back overtime matches 13 times.
  • The most consecutive overtime games played in a single season is four - from Oct. 9-23, 2016 (Tech went 1-1-2 in those four) and IF you went back to last season, when the Hokies finished the season with back-to-back overtime matches in their last two, the streak also reached four as well (Tech is 0-1-3).
