Kumah awarded honorary Beamer No. 25 for William & Mary

BLACKSBURG – Head coach Justin Fuente announced Friday that WR Eric Kumah will wear Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey on Saturday in Virginia Tech's clash with William & Mary.

Kumah carried on Tech's tradition of scoring on special teams Monday night at Florida State. He caught a punt blocked by Chris Cunningham and returned it for a three-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give Tech a 10-0 advantage it would never relinquish against the Seminoles. The junior receiver also hauled in four receptions for 86 yards and caught a 49-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to seal the 24-3 victory in Tallahassee.

The blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown was the first time done by Tech since Sept. 19, 2015, versus Purdue when Terrell Edmunds blocked it and Anthony Shegog took it in for the score. Dating back to 1987, the Hokies have scored touchdowns on 21 blocked punts.

DL Ricky Walker wore the No. 25 jersey at Florida State as the Tech defense posted 14.0 tackles for loss and held FSU to three points, which was only the fifth time that the Seminoles had been held to six or fewer points in a game dating back to 1989.

At the beginning of the 2016 season, coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams' player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams excellence he established for the Hokies.
