BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli announced the 2019 track and field indoor and outdoor schedule Thursday afternoon.
After a year with no indoor home meets because of the renovation of Rector Field House, Tech serves as hosts to four regular-season indoor meets, as well as playing host to the ACC Indoor Championships for a total of five home meets.
The Hokies open the season playing host to the Virginia Tech Invitational from Jan. 11-12 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg. The Hokies' second meet of the season, the Hokie Invitational, will also take place at home, this one on Jan. 18-19.
After hitting the road for the Bob Pollock Invitational and the Iowa Black and Gold Premier, the Hokies will return to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech "Doc Hale" Elite Meet on Feb. 1-2, while select student-athletes will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Camel City Invitational.
Following two dual-meet competitions at Iowa State and Clemson, Tech will play host to its final regular-season home meet of the indoor campaign Feb. 17-18 in preparation as it serves as host to the ACC Indoor Championships. The indoor conference championship will take place Feb. 21-23, followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on March 8-9.
The outdoor season begins March 23-24, as the Hokies split up for their opening weekend, sending student-athletes to compete at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Florida; the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee; and the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Meets at Auburn and Duke will be on April 20-21, as Tech splits up, followed by trips to the Penn Relays and to Virginia to close the month of April. The final weekend of the regular season will see meets take place in two locations, as the Hokies head to Liberty on May 1 and then travel Knoxville to participate in the Tennessee Challenge on May 4.
As the Hokies finish the regular season, they turn their sights toward Charlottesville, as Virginia plays host to the ACC Outdoor Championships.
The NCAA East Preliminaries will be in Jacksonville, Florida from May 23-25, followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
