Hokies finish 13th at Medinah

Illinois Invitational at Medinah Leaderboard

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round total of 880 and finished in 13th place at the Illini Invitational at Medinah on Tuesday afternoon. The two-day tournament was played at the par 72, 6,412-yard Course Two at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
 
The Hokies opened play with a 295 in Monday's morning round and followed that with an even-par 288 in the afternoon round. Tech shot a 297 on Tuesday.
 
For the third time in as many tournaments this season, Emily Mahar led the Hokies. The sophomore from Brisbane, Australia tied for 40th with a 219.
 
Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, tied for 43rd at 220 and Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 50th at 221. Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina and Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 57th at 223.
                                  
Purdue won the team title with a 27-under 837, four strokes ahead of Kent State and eight strokes ahead of host Illinois. Miami finished fourth at 846, Texas Tech and San Jose State tied for fifth at 860 and Kennesaw State was seventh at 862. Augusta finished eighth at 863, SMU was ninth at 867, Wisconsin and Indiana tied for 10th at 871 and Kansas State was 12th at 878, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Northern Illinois finished 14th at 885 and East Carolina was 15th at 887.
 
The Hokies return to action this weekend, as they travel to Mississippi to compete in the Magnolia Invitational. The three-day event, hosted by Ole Miss, will be played at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi.
