Record setting opening night
Virginia Tech forward Trinity Baptiste became the first player to record a double-double in the first game of the season on a debut since 1981. She recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort.

The Hokies also set a new high mark for assists under Head Coach Kenny Brooks with the 22 helpers against USC Upstate. That total was the most at Virginia Tech since the squad dished out 24 in a win over NC Central in 2014.

In the second half against USC Upstate the Hokies scored 60 points, the most in a half during the Kenny Brooks era.

Dara's debut
Highly touted freshman Dara Mabrey made her debut for the Hokies in the season opening win, starting the game and playing 24-plus minutes at the point guard position. She scored 18 points, including knocking down four 3-point field goals and also stuffed the stat sheet in other areas. Mabrey also pulled down three rebounds and had five assists one block and two steals.
