Final Round - Tuesday
The Virginia Tech women's golf team finished with a three-round total of 14-over 878, good for a third place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. The three-day tournament was played at the par 72, 6,203-yard River Course of the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort & Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Hokies shot a 298 in Sunday's opening round and improved to a 291 in the second round on Monday. In Tuesday's final round, Tech shot a 1-over 289 for the 878 final tally.
Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, finished in third place with a 3-under 213, four strokes behind co-medalists Karoline Stormo of Kent State and Dorthea Forbrigd of East Carolina. Mahar shot an even-par 72 on Sunday and a 1-under 71 on Monday before posting her best score of the tournament, a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia tied for fourth with an even-par 216, with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday and Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina tied for 34th at 224. Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 51st at 154 and Keera Foocharoen, a freshman, from Bangkok, Thailand, finished 58th at 230. Sarah Spicer, a redshirt sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, played the event as an individual and tied for 59th at 231.
Kent State claimed the team title with a 2-over 866, four strokes ahead of Arkansas and 12 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Northwestern was fourth at 879, East Carolina was fifth at 882, TCU was sixth at 883 and host Purdue was seventh at 887. Georgia was eighth at 890, Iowa State was ninth at 891, Augusta was 10th at 895 and Maryland was 11th at 897. Indiana finished 12th at 903, NC State was 13th at 905 and Nebraska was 14th at 915.
Statistically, this was a great event for the Hokies, who entered the tournament 59th nationally. They defeated seven top 50 teams, including No. 15 Northwestern.
The Hokies return to the course on March 15-16, as they compete in the Tar Heel Classic. The two-day tournament will be played at the Teeth of the Dog Golf Course in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Second Round - Monday

Sarah Spicer, a redshirt sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, is playing the event as an individual and is tied for 56th 154.
Kent State leads the tournament with a 4-over 580, five strokes ahead of Arkansas and eighth strokes ahead of host Purdue and East Carolina. The Hokies are one stroke behind the Boilermakers and Pirates at 589 and two strokes ahead of TCU. Georgia is seventh at 592, Northwestern is eighth at 594, Maryland is ninth at 599 and Augusta and Iowa State are tied for 10th at 601. Indiana is 12th at 603, NC State is 13th at 607 and Nebraska is 14th at 614.
The final round will be played Tuesday morning. The Hokies will be grouped with TCU and East Carolina in the 8 a.m. AST shotgun start.

Sarah Spicer, a redshirt sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, is playing the event as an individual and is tied for 75th with an 80.
Arkansas leads the event with a 1-over 289, one stroke ahead of TCU and three strokes ahead of host Purdue and Kent State. East Carolina is in fifth place at 297, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Georgia is seventh at 299, Augusta, NC State and Indiana are tied for eighth at 300 and Northwestern in 11th at 302. Iowa State and Nebraska are tied for 12th at 304 and Maryland is 14th at 307.
The second round will be played Monday morning. The Hokies will be grouped with Kent State and East Carolina in the 8 a.m. AST shotgun start.
