Day Two - Saturday
The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a two-round total of 854 and tied VCU for eighth place at the Stitch Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon. The two-day event was played at the par 72, 6,973-yard MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, North Carolina.
The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes after thunderstorms caused the second round on Friday into a day-ending, weather-delay at 4:55 p.m. The tournament resumed the second round at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Hokie golfers had completed just over half of the second round when the weather delay took effect. The Hokies shot identical 292s in the two rounds.
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia led the Hokies. He finished with an even-par 144 and tied for 20thplace. He finished eight strokes behind Stephen Franken of NC State and Cameron Young of Wake Forest. Franken took medalist honors in a playoff on Saturday. Burgess shot a team, tournament-best 2-under 70 in the second round.
Bradley de Beer, a freshman from Western Cape, South Africa, tied for 38that 147. Freshmen Connor Johnson Jr., of Richmond, Virginia and Drew Brockwell of Chesterfield, Virginia, tied for 46that 148 and Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West, South Africa, tied for 65that 151.
Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, played the tournament as an individual. He tied for 24thplace at 1-over 145.
Wake Forest claimed the team title with a 14-under 562, one stroke ahead of Louisville and three strokes ahead of Liberty and NC State. Campbell was fifth at 574, Davidson was sixth at 580 and South Florida was seventh at 581, three strokes ahead of the Hokies and Rams. East Carolina as 10that 592, Toledo was 11that 597, Richmond was 12that 598, Maryland was 13that 599 and Old Dominion was 14that 600.
This was the final regular season tournament for the Hokies. They will compete in the ACC Men's Golf Championship April 18-20 at the Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina.

The current plan is to resume the second round at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and conclude the tournament after the completion of the second round. Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, led the Hokies after the first round. He was tied for 11th at 1-under 71 and trails leader Cameron Young of Wake Forest by three strokes.
Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 27th at 73. Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia and Bradley de Beer, a freshman from Western Cape, South Africa are tied for 36th at 74. Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West, South Africa, is tied for 59th at 77.
Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, is playing the tournament as an individual. He is tied for 19th with an even-par 72.
Louisville holds the first-round lead with a 6-under 282, two strokes ahead of Liberty and three strokes ahead of Wake Forest. Campbell is fourth at 286 and NC State is fifth at 291, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Bulls. Davidson is eighth at 294, East Carolina is ninth at 295 and VCU is 10th at 298. Toledo and Richmond are tied for 11th at 300, Old Dominion is 13th at 302 and Maryland is 14th at 309.
