BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's golf team has earned its second-consecutive NCAA regional berth, as announced on Wednesday night. The Hokies, which earned an at-large berth, will be the 12th seed in the Norman Regional.
This marks the second NCAA regional appearance in the program's brief history. Under the direction of Carol Robertson, Tech is in just its fourth season of intercollegiate competition. The Hokies were the 14th seed in the Austin Regional last season and finished 10th overall.
"One of our main goals was to watch the show this year wondering where, not if, we would be in regionals," Robertson said. "I'm very happy to be going for the second year in a row in the program's short four years of existence. It's so nice for the inaugural team to have another chance to experience this wonderful event."
The Hokies will be the 12th seed in the 18-team field at the Norman Regional. The tournament will be played May 6-8 at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, hosted by the University of Oklahoma. The top six teams and top three individuals not on an advancing team will advance to the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, to be held May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Arkansas, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Tech will be joined in the Norman field by fellow Atlantic Coast Conference members Wake Forest the second seed at the site and NC State, the 13th seed in Norman. Texas is the top seed in Norman and second overall national seed. Florida is the third seed, Arizona State is the fourth seed and TCU is the sixth seed.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes of stroke play, 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.Gallery: (4/24/2019) 2019 WOMEN'S GOLF NCAA SELECTION SHOW
