The Virginia Tech track and field teams picked up three event titles on Wednesday as hurdler Imagine Patterson and distance runners Matthias Cannon and Kayla Richardson placed first in their respective events at the Liberty Twilight at Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.
Richardson won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 10 minutes; 56.94 seconds to earn her first event title of the outdoor season
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Imagine Patterson tallied a time of 1:00.78 to garner the first individual event title of her career.
Matthias Cannon also won his first career event title as the Glen Allen, Virginia native did so with a personal best time of 3:47.95 in the 1,500 meters.
SPRINTS
Kanajzae Brown finished second in the 200-meter dash and set an outdoor personal best with her time of 23.99 seconds. Caitlan Tate finished right behind her with a time of 24.40 as she finished fourth.
DISTANCE
The Hokie men dominated the 800 meters as they finished with five of the top-8 spots. Thierry Siewe Yanga (1:50.63) placed fourth, Jack Joyce (1:50.79) was fifth, Owen Buck (1:51.27) was sixth, Dave Whitfield (1:51.40) was seventh and Eldon Phillips (1:51.40) finished eighth. Siewe Yanga, Joyce, Whitfield and Phillips all set outdoor PRs in the event.
In the women's 800 meters, Ellie Brush finished third with her time of 2:07.94, a time that was fast enough to move her to 10th all-time in the school's record book. Lauren Berman placed fourth her time of 2:10.26.
Antonio Lopez Segura finished second in the 1,500 meters with a new outdoor personal best time of 3:49.14.
UP NEXT
Select student-athletes will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Tennessee Challenge. The one-day meet will be held on Saturday, May 4 and will be the Hokies final meet of the regular season before ACC Outdoor Championships May 9-11.
