Hokies place four on 2019 All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team

Virginia Tech women's golfers Elizabeth Bose, Amanda Hollandsworth, Emily Mahar and Jessica Spicer have been named to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
 
Bose makes her third consecutive appearance on the team and Hollandsworth is named for the second consecutive year. Mahar and Spicer earn the honor for the first time. This marks the first time in that Virginia Tech has placed four student-athletes on the team.

Bose, a recent graduate from Norfolk. Virginia, was named to the 2018 and 2019 Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Women's At-Large team. A clinical neuroscience and biochemistry double major graduate from Virginia Tech, Bose was awarded the 2017 Skelton Award for Academic Excellence in Athletics, the top academic honor awarded by the Virginia Tech athletics department. She completed her Hokie career playing in every team event in school history and is second in career scoring average at Virginia Tech.

Hollandsworth, who graduated in May 2018 with a degree in human nutrition, food and exercise, earned a master's degree in applied nutrition and physical activity in May 2019. In May, the Floyd, Virginia native finished fifth individually in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship and, in June, became the first Hokie ever to compete in the U.S. Women's Open. She completed her Hokie career playing in every event in school history and is third in career scoring average.
 
Mahar is a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia majoring in human development. She led the Hokies in scoring average this season, at 73.26 and is the all-time leader in scoring average at Virginia Tech at 74.13. During the 2018-19 season, she had two top 5 finishes, plus four more top 20 finishes.
 
Spicer is a junior from Bahama, North Carolina majoring in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience and psychology, with a minor in entrepreneurship - New Venture Growth. She was third on the team in scoring this season and fourth in career scoring.
 
Duke senior Virginia Elena Carta was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year this season. To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
