BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech track and field teams begin their summer slate of international competition this weekend as freshmen Chauncey Chambers, Ben Nibbelink and Nykah Smith will compete at the U20 Outdoor Championships in Miramar, Florida.
Nibbelink will be the first Hokie to compete over the weekend as he will participate in the 3,000-meter steeple chase at 6:50 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 22nd. The Leesburg, Virginia native holds a personal best time of 9 minutes, 13.44 seconds in the event.
Smith will be the first to see action on Sunday as she will be participating in the first round of the 200-meter dash at 3:57 p.m. Her her personal best time of 23.56 seconds, currently sits as the fifth-fastest outdoor time in program history. Chambers will compete in the triple jump at 4:45 p.m. ET and currently holds an outdoor personal best of mark 15.29 meters (50 feet, 7.25 inches), which he used to finish seventh at the ACC Outdoor Championships and move to sixth all-time in the record book.
