ROANOKE, Va. – Virginia Tech's Mark Lawrence Jr. turned in a 10-under 206 to place second at the Delta Dental State Open of Virginia, while Cameron Moore tied for 15th and Connor Burgess tied for 25th at Ballyhack Golf Club on Saturday.
Lawrence was tied for first and played in a playoff with eventual champion Jack Montague, but Montague tallied a par for the win.
The Richmond, Virginia native didn't have his A-game on Thursday, firing a three-over 75, but rallied the next two days, getting the lowest score of anyone all weekend with a nine-under 63 Friday and followed it up with a four-under 68 Saturday. The 63 on Friday tied the competitive course record at Ballyhack.
Moore posted a one-under 215, staying steady all three days with a 71, 72 and 72. Burgess, similar to Lawrence, shot a four-over 76 Thursday, but stepped it up with a four-under 68 Friday and a one-over 73 Saturday.
The three-day tournament began Thursday on the 6,946-yard course for the sixth straight year.
