McGlynn named to the preseason All-ACC team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior Mandy McGlynn has been named to the 2019 Preseason All-ACC Women's Soccer Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. The Hokies' goalkeeper is one of 11 student-athletes to make the preseason team, which was voted on by the conference's coaches. To view the entire ACC release, CLICK HERE.

McGlynn, who racked up a number of honors last season which included being named to the All-ACC First Team, a first for a Tech goalkeeper, enters her final campaign for the Hokies after a turning in her best season while playing for Tech in her three-year career.

Last season, McGlynn was also named an All-Atlantic Region Second Team by the United Soccer Coaches after starting all 22 matches and playing every single minute (2,056:43, the second-most ever in a single season at the school) of the year.

She stopped 91 shots (seventh) for a 79.8 save percentage (eighth) and posted a 1.01 goals against average (T-fifth). She also recorded 10 shutouts (second), won 11 matches (T-third) and became the first goalkeeper to play every minute of the season in goal for Tech since 2004 (Mallory Soldner, 1,800).

The Jacksonville, Florida, native helped the Hokies make a return trip to both the ACC and NCAA Championship tournaments, a run that saw Tech reach the Round of 16 for the first time since 2014. She recorded back-to-back shutouts to open the NCAAs, which included a first round upset at No. 17 Texas.

Her career numbers all rank in the top four at the school for goalkeepers and include 29 wins and 22 shutouts (both second), a 1.06 GAA in 5,262 minutes played (both third) and 221 saves and a 78.1 save percentage (both fourth).

The Hokies, who were recently ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll, will play a home scrimmage this Saturday against Marshall at Thompson Field starting at 5 p.m. Tech opens the regular season with a home weekend against Liberty (Thursday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m.) and Cincinnati (Sunday, Aug. 25, 1 p.m.).
