Hokies announce 2019-20 wrestling schedule

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech wrestling head coach Tony Robie confirmed that his squad's schedule has been finalized for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

The season slate has 14 regular season dual meets and three in-season tournaments, including a home dual against a Missouri squad that finished sixth at the 2019 NCAA Championships. Tech also welcomes ACC foes North Carolina and Duke to Blacksburg this season. The match against the Blue Devils will be held at the Moss Arts Center on the Virginia Tech campus, once again providing fans the opportunity to view Tech wrestling in one of the nation's most unique venues. The Hokies will also host West Virginia in Cassell Coliseum.

"We're excited to compete against some of the country's top programs once again this season," Robie said. "Opening the year at home with Missouri will be a huge opportunity for us, as well as the chance to wrestle at Ohio State. Our squad is looking forward to wrestling in front of our home fans at Cassell Coliseum, as well as our match at Moss Arts Center. We appreciate the great support that Hokie Nation provides us. Our squad will continue working hard in preparation for the start of the season."

Prior to the season officially beginning, you can watch the Hokies in their intra-squad wrestle-off on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies open the 2019-20 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a dual meet against Missouri at Cassell Coliseum. The next day, Sunday, Nov. 3, Tech hosts the Southeast Open at the Berglund Center in Roanoke. The Hokies will then host Northwestern (Nov. 10) and travel for a dual meet against the 2019 NCAA runner-up Ohio State (Nov. 17). The Hokies close out 2019 with two midseason tournaments, the Navy Classic and the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, before hosting Chattanooga on Dec. 21.

Tech will open 2020 by traveling to Central Michigan on Jan. 3 and then hosting former BIG EAST rival West Virginia on Jan. 11. After a road dual with Binghamton, the Hokies have three straight duals against teams who finished in the top 25 at last year's NCAA Championships –  Cornell, North Carolina and Virginia. The team travels to Norfolk for an in-state matchup with Old Dominion on Feb. 2 before wrapping up the regular season with ACC opponents Duke, NC State and Pitt.

Tech will look to claim its third ACC title in four years at the 2020 ACC Championship in Pittsburgh on March 8. Finally, the Hokies will look to improve on their No. 11 national finish from a year ago when the 2020 NCAA Championships begin on March 19 in Minneapolis.
