Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team returns to Blacksburg for a pair of home matches against Top 10 opponents. Before hosting the 2018 defending national champions Florida State Seminoles on Thursday night, the Hokies will face No. 10 Duke Sunday. The 23-ranked Hokies welcome the Blue Devils to Thompson Field with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. Tech will look to end a current two-game slide and a three-game losing streak to Duke.

Facing ranked foes, four straight, and all in top 10
- The Hokies are currently in a four-match stretch where they will face four straight ranked opponents, which marks just the fifth time in program history during the regular season and the eighth time overall.
- Three times Tech had a stretch of four straight, the last was Sept. 16-Oct. 1, 2016 (0-3-1), while its longest was a six-match span from Sept. 23-Oct. 17, 2010 - which included three straight against top 10 teams - at No. 1 North Carolina (L, 2-1), No. 7 Maryland (W, 1-0) and at No. 4 Boston College (W, 2-1).
- The team has never faced four straight programs ranked in the Top 10.
- All-time, Tech is 30-87-13 (130 games - 28.1 win percentage) against ranked foes. Under head coach Chugger Adair (nine seasons), the Hokies are 17-40-7 (32.0), while they were 13-47-6 (24.2) prior.

- The Hokies' 1-0 win over No. 6 Virginia last year (Sept. 27) marked the team's first victory over a top 10 program since Nov. 8, 2013 - vs. No. 1 Virginia, 4-2 at the ACC Championship semifinal in Cary, N.C.
- Prior to the 2018 victory, the Hokies had not beaten a ranked foe in 14 attempts - since Oct. 4, 2015, when Tech went on the road and beat No. 22 Duke (4-2). The team was 0-9-5 between the two wins.
- Last season, the Hokies were 2-5-1 vs. ranked teams, last beating No. 17 Texas (1-0) on the road in the first round of the NCAA Championship, while they are 0-2-0 this season.
- In its history, Tech is 11-54-4 against programs ranked in the top 10, including, now, a 2-5-1 mark against teams with the No. 1 ranking.
- Tech's last four losses, and 8-of-9 have been to ranked teams, including three times last year to UNC.

- All-time, Tech is 4-12-1 against Duke, which includes three straight losses to the Blue Devils, in which the Hokies have been outscored by a 9-0 count.
- In games at Thompson Field, the Hokies have won 3-of-7, including a 3-0 victory on Nov. 29, 2013, a win in the NCAA Championship quarterfinals that advanced Tech to its first ever College Cup appearance.
- The win was the start of a three-match winning streak that ended with the Hokies' last win over the Blue Devils on Oct. 4, 2015, a 4-2 decision in Durham.
McGlynn named a Senior CLASS candidate
- Tech's goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn has been named as one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award for her achievements both on and off the field, the organization recently announced.
- McGlynn is one of four goalkeepers to be selected to the initial list and the only ACC player chosen as a candidate. The Jacksonville, Florida native has already been named an All-ACC Preseason First Team member and earned a school record fourth ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor back on Sept. 17.
- The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists and will be placed on the official ballot.
McGlynn's notable efforts last week
- At No. 1 Virginia, Mandy McGlynn held the Cavaliers scoreless until the 70:10 mark, which ended a consecutive scoreless streak of 398:33, a new program record for a single goalkeeper. The previous mark was held by Mallory Soldner, who posted a 383:37 straight scoreless streak from Sept. 2-Sept 14, 2003.
- At No. 9 Clemson, she posted a career-high (in a 90-minute match) 11 saves, which was the most since Dayle Colpitts had 11 on Aug. 27, 2010 against No. 9 Texas A&M in a 5-3 loss.
