ROANOKE, Va. – A day after pulling the upset over ninth-ranked Missouri, Virginia Tech was back on the mat at the 2019 Southeast Open at the Berglund Center in Roanoke Sunday. Sam Latona, Hunter Graf and Jake Hart each took titles with them back to Blacksburg.
Latona won the 125 open division title after going 3-0 on Sunday. He defeated wrestlers from West Virginia and Chattanooga, future Hokies' opponents this season, en route to the championship.
Graf and Hart won their titles in the freshman and sophomore division. Graf, at 125, went 5-0 to claim first, including two major decisions along the way. Hart won his at 149 pounds by major decision in the final and two falls earlier in the tournament. He went 5-0 Sunday.
Virginia Tech returns to action Sunday against No. 20 Northwestern in the first-ever Mat on the Mound. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

- Freshman Cole Rhone went 2-1 on his way to a third-place finish in the 133 freshman/sophomore division. Rhone had a fall 1:33 into his first match as a Hokie.
- Stanley Smeltzer and Cody Howard finished third and fifth respectively in the 197 open division. Smeltzer went 2-1 with two major decisions.
- Freshman Connor Brady had a major decision in the 157 open division on his way to a fifth-place finish.
