Emily Mahar finishes 22nd at The Spirit

FINAL RESULTS

SATURDAY

Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mahar tied for 22ndplace individually at The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday. The three-day tournament was played at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
 
Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia and her teammate, Cassie Porter, finished 12thin the women's competition with a 6-under 210. The combined men's and women's teams tied for ninth place at 24-under 408.  France won the combined event at 37-under 395, one stroke ahead of South Korea. The South Korea team won the women's competition at 22-under 194, one stroke ahead of France
 
In the individual competition, the scoring is based on total instances, which are individual total birdies (one point) and eagles (two points). Mahar had three birdies in her first round, three more in the second round on Friday and one instance for a total of seven instances. She finished one instance behind Jeonghyun Lee of South Korea.
 
The Spirit featured the world's best amateur men and amateur women golfers representing their respective countries in team and individual competitions. The 80 participants enjoy an Olympic like experience from the Opening/Closing Ceremonies, international village and competing for gold medals.
 
International Team (combined best ball of the Men's and Women's teams), Men's Team, Women's Team, Men's Individual, and Women's Individual. Gold, Silver and Bronze commemorative medals are awarded to the top three places in each competition.
 
Mahar's Team Australia women's playing partner Cassie Porter is a world-ranked junior golfer from Australia and the Australian men's team consists of Jack Trent from UNLV and Lachlan Barker of Iowa State.

Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mahar is tied for 12th place individually after the second round of The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship on Friday. The three-day tournament is being played at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity Texas.
 
Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia and her teammate, Cassie Porter, are tied for ninth in the women's competition with a 5-under 139. The combined men's and women's teams are tied for sixth place at 18-under 270.  South Korea leads the combined event at 29-under 259, four strokes ahead of France. The South Korea team leads the women's competition at 17-under 127, four strokes ahead of France
 
In the individual competition, the scoring is based on total instances, which are individual total birdies (one point) and eagles (two points. Mahar had three birdies in her first round and three more in the second round on Friday, for a total of six instances. She trails leader Jeonghyun Lee of South Korea by seven instances.
 
The final round will be played on Saturday with assigned tee times off the first and 10th tees. Virginia Tech women's golfer Emily Mahar is tied for 15th place individually after the first round of The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship on Thursday. The three-day tournament is being played at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity Texas.
 
Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia and her teammate, Cassie Porter, are tied for ninth in the women's competition with a 4-under 68. The combined men's and women's teams are tied for fourth place at 11-under 140.  Porter is a world-ranked junior golfer from Australia and the Australian men's team consists of Jack Trent from UNLV and Lachlan Barker of Iowa State.
 
In the individual competition, the scoring is based on total instances, which are individual total birdies and eagles. Mahar had three birdies in her first round.
 
The second round will be played on Friday with assigned tee times of off the first and 10th tees.
