Thompson signs pro contract with Spanish club team

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's soccer recent graduate Jaylyn Thompson has signed a professional contract to play for a Spanish club team, the organization announced Friday. Thompson will be playing for the Zaragoza CFF, a team in that competes in the Liga Reto Iberdrola in Spain.

In her Tech career, Thompson started 72 of 74 total matches for the Hokies, which included starting the final 69 straight games, the longest streak since 2012 when Kelsey Mitchell (2009-12) started all 88 matches of her career. She was one of five Hokies to start all 19 matches this year and logged the most minutes (1,732) of any field player for Tech in 2019, sitting out just 16 minutes all season.

"I am super excited for this opportunity," Thompson said. "Playing professional soccer has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I am so lucky to have the opportunity to do it in a place like Spain and on Zaragoza CFF.

"I got a lot of help from our coaches, my parents and an agent and with their help this opportunity came along and we all knew this was not one that I could pass up. I will be there from January to May and, in that time, I am excited to experience a different culture and a new style of play.

"I think this will be an amazing overall experience and I am so lucky to get the chance to do what I love in Spain for a few months!"
