Virginia Tech travels to Old Dominion

  • The teams met last season with the Hokies coming away with a 31-9 victory.
  • Old Dominion is the second half of the Hokies' weekend on the road.

Hokies vs. Monarchs

  • Virginia Tech is the seventh-ranked team in the country according to the NWCA Coaches Poll. The Hokies have been ranked in the top 10 for nine-straight polls.
  • Tech has six wrestlers ranked by InterMat to Old Dominion's two. Hunter Bolen (No. 2) and David McFadden (No. 5) rank in the top 10 of their respective weight classes, while Joey Prata (No. 13), Mitch Moore (No. 18), B.C. LaPrade (No. 18) and John Borst (No. 18) round out the top 20.
  • ODU's Killian Cardinale is ranked No. 20 at 125 pounds and Larry Early is No. 11 at 157 pounds.
  • Sunday could feature two ranked matchups. Prata vs. Cardinale and LaPrade vs. Early are the projected featured matchups.

Twenty wins for Hunter Bolen

  • With his 12-4 major decision Friday night, Hunter Bolen reached 20 wins on the 2019-20 season, Tech's first starter to do so.
  • Bolen is 8-1 against ranked opponents this season. His only loss came to No. 3 Taylor Lujan of Northern Iowa, but Bolen would avenge that defeat with a 9-7 win over Lujan to take third place at the Cliff Keen Invite in December.
  • Bolen is 10-0 in duals this season, the only Hokie to remain unbeaten. He is outscoring his dual opponents 39-0.
  • Ranked second in the country at 184 pounds by InterMat, FloWrestling and the NWCA Coaches Panel, Bolen has a legitimate shot to become Tech's 23rd All-American come March.

Hokies come out on top in Commonwealth Clash

  • After winning six-straight matches Friday night at John Paul Jones Arena, Virginia Tech defeated Virginia 20-16 for their first ACC win of the season.
  • Friday's victory was the Hokies eighth-straight dual win over the Hoos. The streak dates back to January 2015 when the Hokies won 18-15.
  • Bryce Andonian and Hunter Bolen scored bonus points for the Hokies, each winning by major decision.
  • With the win, Tech improves to 9-1 on the season, 1-1 in the ACC.
