Hokies split for four meets

BLACKSBURG - With the ACC Indoor Championships only two weeks away, the Virginia Tech track and field teams will split up for four meets – Iowa State Invitational, Don Kirby Invitational, Texas Tech Invitational and VMI Indoor Classic.
 
The Don Kirby Invitational will begin on Thursday and go through Friday. Tech will also compete on Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State Invitational and Texas Tech Invitational, while select student athletes will compete on Friday at the VMI Indoor Classic.

The Don Kirby Invitational and Iowa State Classic will be streamed live on FloTrack, while the Texas Tech Invitational will be streamed live on Texas Tech TV.

Last Time Out
The Hokies set two school records at the Doc Hale Elite meet as Caitlan Tate broke the record in the 200 meters with her time of 23.39. Tate was also a member of the 4x400 relay group of Kennedy Dennis, Arlicia Bush and Nykah Smith that broke the school record with a time of 3:36.24. Rachel Baxter won her second consecutive pole vault competition and the third of the indoor season, as the Orange, California native leaped 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches).
 
At the Camel City Invitational, Sara Freix shaved almost 10 seconds off her previous personal-best time of 9:21.72 to run the second-fastest time in the event, clocking a time of 9:11.85. Running in the men's 3,000, Peter Seufer also set a new personal best with his time of 7.53.72 en route to a second-place finish.

League Honors
Due to her impressive showing last weekend, Baxter was named ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week and Tate was named ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week
 
Hokies in the Rankings
Nationally, the Hokies have 12 student-athletes who have times and marks that rank in the top-25. Caitlan Tate ranks 12th in 200 meters and 13th in the 400 meters, Lindsey Butler sits 12th in the 800 meters, Sarah Edwards is ranked sixth in the mile, Sara Freix is 6th in the 3,000 meters, Rachel Baxter is second in the nation in the pole vault.
 
On the men's side, Cole Beck ranks 11th in the 60-meter dash, Jacory Patterson sits 8th in the 400 meters, Diego Zarate  and Jack Joyce rank 8th and 24th, respectively, in the mile, Bashir Mosavel-Lo sits 12th in the 800 meters, Peter Seufer is third in the nation in the 3,000 meters and Chauncey Chambers is 22nd in the triple jump.
