BLACKSBURG – Wrapping up its three-game home stand, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team will play host to Miami (Fla.) on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies (15-10, 6-8 ACC) will go up against the Hurricanes (13-12, 5-10), who are coming off two double-digit wins.
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 23-17, but the Hokies have won three of the last four, including the last one in Blacksburg (2019). The last time these two faced off, the 'Canes got the best of the Hokies, 71-61.
Tech coach Mike Young is 1-2 all-time versus Miami's Jim Larrañaga. When Young was at Wofford and Larrañaga at George Mason, Young's Terriers defeated the Patriots 82-79 in overtime in 2010 in Charleston. But Larrañaga got revenge, winning with the 'Canes 74-57 in '16 before they met again last month.
The matchup will be broadcast on regional sports networks (click here), with Tom Werme (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) on the call, while Jon Laaser (play-by-play) and Mike Burnop (analyst) will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Properties.

The last time out, Tech snapped its five-game losing streak this past Saturday with a 10-point win over Pitt, 67-57. All nine players contributed, getting at least a rebound and scoring in a well-balanced attack, while Tech's bench outscored Pitt 25-10. The Hokies got up by as many as 19 points.
Tech, which has committed exactly 10 TOs in its last four games, ranks tied for first nationally in turnovers per game with an average of 9.8 a contest along with Notre Dame and Liberty. When Jalen Cone hit four 3s vs. Pitt on Saturday, it made Tech one of six high-majors to have two players on a team with six or more games of making four 3s (Landers Nolley II, Cone w/ 6).
SCOUTING MIAMI (FLA.)
• The Hurricanes are coming off a 17-point win over Wake Forest (11-14, 4-11) this past Saturday at home, jumping out to a 12-point lead at halftime and never looking back for the 71-54 victory. Four Hurricanes scored in double figures, while Rodney Miller had a near double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes.
• Larrañaga enters his ninth season as the head coach in Coral Gables, following a 14-year stint at George Mason where he took the Patriots to the Final Four in 2006. With the 'Canes, he has led them to four NCAA Tournament appearances and an ACC title in 2013.
• Miami is paced by DJ Vasiljevic, who ranks fourth in the ACC in 3-pointers made per game with 2.44, and Chris Lykes, who owns a team-high 15.2 points per game, sitting ninth in the league.
• Similar to the Hokies with a high ranking in the fewest fouls committed per game category, the Hurricanes are 11thnationally and fourth in the ACC with 14.4 fouls a contest. Miami also rarely turns it over, with ranking sixth in the ACC and 75th overall with 12.1 turnovers per game.
