Baxter tabbed as ACC Women’s Co-Field Performer of the Week

BLACKSBURG – For the second time of the 2020 indoor track and field season, Rachel Baxter of the Virginia Tech women's track and field team earned ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week recognition, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
 
Baxter, along with the rest of Tech's vault group, competed at the New Mexico Team Open held Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The junior from Orange, California, cleared 4.53 meters (14 feet, 10.25 inches) on her second attempt.
 
Baxter attempted 4.60 meters, but missed on all three attempts. She broke her own school record of 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches), which she set last year at the ACC Championships held at Rector Field House last February.
 
Four others were selected by the ACC for weekly honors, including Florida State's Trey Cunningham (Men's Track), Florida State's Isaac Grimes (Men's Field), Miami's Tiara McMinn (Women's Track) and Notre Dame's Rachel Tanczos (Co-Women's Field).
 
The Hokies return to Rector Field House this weekend as they host the third of four homes meets with the Doc Hale Elite Meet. The meet begins Friday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. Action will pick back up on Saturday Feb. 8 at 11:00 a.m. with field-events. Select distance runners will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to compete in the Camel City Invitational on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday Feb. 8.
